Mother’s Day Weather Update: Outdoor Plans? Check Here First
Sunshine and spring vibes will show up for Mother’s Day in many places — but if you’re in one particular part of the country, rainclouds might be the uninvited guest.

Whether you’re planning a sunny brunch, a walk in the park, or just some fresh air with Mom this weekend, the weather will cooperate for many — but not all — parts of the country.
Here’s a quick look at who can count on sunshine and where you might want to keep an umbrella (and a Plan B) close by.
Soggy Setup in the Southeast
If you’re in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, or northern and central Florida, you’ll want to watch the skies. A lingering low-pressure system is bringing in scattered showers and storms throughout the weekend.

It won’t be a total washout, but if you had plans for the beach or a garden celebration, it’s smart to have an indoor alternative ready. And while it won’t be cold, temperatures will run cooler than usual for May in parts of the region — especially in the higher elevations, where some spots may stay stuck in the 50s.
That said, much of Florida will still feel like spring, with highs in the 80s, and parts of southern Georgia and Alabama will also see warmer pockets outside of the mountains.
Spring Perfection
For those in Texas, Oklahoma, the Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes, this weekend looks nearly flawless. High pressure is keeping skies clear and conditions calm — ideal for any outdoor celebration.

Temperatures will feel more like summer in many areas, with highs in the 80s, and even 90s. Cities like Dallas, San Antonio and Washington, D.C. are in for a warm and sunny Mother’s Day.
West Coast & Rockies: Mixed Bag
In the Pacific Northwest, Saturday will be the best day for outdoor plans. A weak front moving in could bring some Sunday showers, especially around Seattle and Portland. Further inland, the Rockies might see a few afternoon showers, but much of the West stays dry.

The Desert Southwest, however, might be too warm for comfort — Phoenix is expected to hit the triple digits, and Las Vegas will be deep into the 90s. Outdoor celebrations are best in the morning or evening.
Northeast: A Warming Trend
A departing storm could make Saturday damp across parts of New York and New England, but Mother’s Day Sunday looks dry and warmer. Boston, for instance, will warm into the 70s, perfect for brunch al fresco after a cooler start to the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest will do the reverse — mild and pleasant Saturday, then cooler and possibly damp Sunday.
Quick Takeaways
Best spots for outdoor plans: Midwest, Great Lakes, Central and Southern Plains
Have a backup plan if you’re in: Southeast or Desert Southwest
Flip-flop weekends: Pacific Northwest (best on Saturday), Northeast (best on Sunday)
Wherever you are, a little planning goes a long way. And rain or shine, it's all about celebrating the moms who do it all. Happy Mother’s Day!
